"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 "If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." President Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 "We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force-- if necessary-- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002 Need more? I got hundreds... posted by: thoolou (reply) post date: 11.02.05 (10:50 am) The Bush cabal? Here are a few statistics on BJ's legacy... RECORDS SET - The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance - Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates* - Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation - Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify - Most number of witnesses to die suddenly - First president sued for sexual harassment. - First president accused of rape. - First first lady to come under criminal investigation - Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case - First president to establish a legal defense fund. - First president to be held in contempt of court - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions - Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad - First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court * According to our best information, 40 government officials were indicted or convicted in the wake of Watergate. A reader computes that there was a total of 31 Reagan era convictions, including 14 because of Iran-Contra and 16 in the Department of Housing & Urban Development scandal. 47 individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine were convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes with 33 of these occurring during the Clinton administration itself. There were in addition 61 indictments or misdemeanor charges. 14 persons were imprisoned. A key difference between the Clinton story and earlier ones was the number of criminals with whom he was associated before entering the White House. Using a far looser standard that included resignations, David R. Simon and D. Stanley Eitzen in Elite Deviance, say that 138 appointees of the Reagan administration either resigned under an ethical cloud or were criminally indicted. Curiously Haynes Johnson uses the same figure but with a different standard in "Sleep-Walking Through History: America in the Reagan Years: "By the end of his term, 138 administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever." STARR-RAY INVESTIGATION - Number of Starr-Ray investigation convictions or guilty pleas (including one governor, one associate attorney general and two Clinton business partners): 14 - Number of Clinton Cabinet members who came under criminal investigation: 5 - Number of Reagan cabinet members who came under criminal investigation: 4 - Number of top officials jailed in the Teapot Dome Scandal: 3 CRIME STATS - Number of individuals and businesses associated with the Clinton machine who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to crimes: 47 - Number of these convictions during Clinton's presidency: 33 - Number of indictments/misdemeanor charges: 61 - Number of congressional witnesses who have pleaded the Fifth Amendment, fled the country to avoid testifying, or (in the case of foreign witnesses) refused to be interviewed: 122 SMALTZ INVESTIGATION - Guilty pleas and convictions obtained by Donald Smaltz in cases involving charges of bribery and fraud against former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy and associated individuals and businesses: 15 - Acquitted or overturned cases (including Espy): 6 - Fines and penalties assessed: $11.5 million - Amount Tyson Food paid in fines and court costs: $6 million Do some research, willya? http://prorev.com/legacy.htm posted by: littlemrmahatma (reply) post date: 11.03.05 (6:11 am) I never claimed Clinton was perfect. Far from it and I never was the biggest Clinton fan. But by comparison Clinton was near angelic compared to Bush. posted by: DrForbush (reply) post date: 11.03.05 (8:37 am) Reply to: thoolou Actually, the threat of force and UN inspections were working there wasn't any need to actually go and invade Iraq. Hans Blix was begging for more time, but Bush ignored this and decided to kill thousands of people. posted by: imahk (reply) post date: 11.04.05 (9:49 am) thus, every leader must have had inherited some bad worms in the system...ON WAR ISSUES and how about: Katrina*Disaster---Aftermath: all Political Parties have to be blamed or it could be the "Time-Duration of Social-Structures/Political-Human Resources" got caught on; hoping that Big Storm is just passing by and there's no hurry to change...That Bad*Storm sounds like BAD GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT coming from blue and red parties---LET THE BLAME* GAME BEGINS! posted by: littlemrmahatma (reply) post date: 11.06.05 (8:42 am) Yeah, imagine the crap that the NEXT President will inherit... posted by: Rifleman (reply) post date: 11.08.05 (8:11 pm) What about the innocent Serbian civilians killed by the Clinton war. General Clark admitted that civilians were targetted. And Clinton claimed that the Serbs were killing thousands of Bosnians and Kosovars, yet totally ignored the killing of hundreds of thousands of civilians massacred in Africa. AND JUST HOW MANY THOUSANDS OF IRAQIS WERE KILLED BY SADAM WHILE CLINTON SAT BY AND WATCHED? Are you to claim that Sadam didn't kill Iraqis? And don't forget, Clinton and Jimmy "Liar" Carter gave weapons grade nuclear material to North Korea. GAVE! Your funny little theory about Bush lied and Iraqis died, is just so ridiculous. Sadam was not abiding by the ceasefire and was trying to shoot down coalition aircraft patrolling the UN mandated "no fly zone". There had been no UN inspectors for a couple of years because of Clinton policy, and Clinton had allowed Sadam to destroy all the intelligence assets in Iraq. France, Germany, and Russia, our beloved allies who the democrats want more than anything to appease, opposed any action in Iraq, not out of a sincere desire for peace, but because they were taking bribes from Sadam and violating the embargo. All the while, the UN itself, was taking bribes and allowing Sadam to skim billions off of the oil for food program on a level never before seen. So what do you argue? Bush manipulated prewar intelligence, He Lied. Then Clinton lied as well. And every democrat in the Senante lied also. George Tenant was a Clinton appointee, How would Bush turn him so quickly? And you claim Bush a near idiot. How did he fool all these superior intellect democrats? And why should anyone vote for democrats who claim that they were fooled? And you forget, Osama is not in Afghanistan anymore, he is in Pakistan where our troops can't go. We were attacked again on 9-11 because Clinton didn't care about terrorism and had done little or nothing after the several attacks during his administration. His own FBI director testified to Clinton's apathy on terrorism. Osama Bin Laden himself referenced Clinton's cowardice in Mogadishu as evidence of the weakness of the US. |
