Hurricanes - Acts of God
09.21.04 (5:35 am)   [edit]
Every day billions of people pray and give thanks to God for a variety of benefits - food on the table, good weather, a decent stock tip, healthy kids. Yet, we have Acts of God - hurricanes, earthquakes, disease, tornados, drought, floods - that do much damage and cause great pain. Are we allowed to curse God in this case or do we give thanks that we didn't get killed (this time)? Does anyone find it suspicious that for such a benevolent God we even have these Acts? If I didn't know better I'd say that either God isn't as benevolent as people believe (and therefore not worthy of adoration) or that God doesn't exist. Convince me that the destruction from hurricane Ivan is a good thing and none of this "mysterious ways" crap...

I live in Pensacola, FL which was hit the worst by Hurricane Ivan. I have seen much destruction and I can't explain why we have hurricanes...there are some things about God that we will never understand. Ever heard the phrase God acts in mysterious ways?

So you truly believe that we live in the best of all possible worlds?

If God works in mysterious ways then why bother, because you won't know whether your pleas, thanks, curses, and whatnot have any effect.

I prefer to work as if God doesn't exist and strive to make this world a better, more enjoyable place. As opposed to those who fervently believe and feel they must impose that belief on everyone else using violence if necessary.

You my friend have not hit rock bottom in your life. If you had you would not have decided to be your own God. If you truthfully wanted to get to know Him better, you would do everything possible to spend time with Him and study His Word( THE BIBLE)You would turn your life over to Him and expect Him to work in it. Then things wouldn't seem so mysterious. He is a just God. We are sinful by nature and really deserve everything Ivan had to offer us when we fail to rely on everything that God has sacrificed for us to live and yet we refuse thid precious gift, quickly shoving it back in His face. I wonder what your reaction would be if you had lovingly gave your one an only son's life in order to save another, and everything he did and went through was rejected , shoved back in your face along with comments such as he didn't do anything that I couldn't have done myself. Fact is God exist whether you believe it or not. He is the Almighty and controls the air that you breath and every breath that your body takes. He decides whether or not you wake up in the morning. He keeps all things in the solar system balanced. He has proven His love for you many times over. You are being deceived by the father of all lies(satan). He wants you to be spiritually blind to God's Word. His time is short and seeks to destroy what God created. It is easier to be lazy and decide something doesn't exist than it is to really search for the answers.By the way God says for us to give thanks in all things. He can turn a bad situation into something good if you allow Him to. If not you've given your life over to satan's snares and lies. You have nobody to blame but yourself. Also I have been through all 4 hurricanes, but not without Jesus by myside. I have accepted Jesus Christ God's son and what He did on the cross as payment for our sins.Putting all our trust in Him alone and giving Him full control over all situations when I had hit bottom myself. Planning to take my life by morning, God gave me a second chance.Try reading the book "The Case for Christ." written by someone who set out to prove God didn't exist.
