Secondly, the Pope is a political figure secondarily: this is because he has to be a leader and he heads a religious state-- the Vatican. Chiefly, if you knew anything about religion, you'd know that he is a teacher, and he is picked not by the Cardinals but by the Holy Spirit moving through them to the right choice. Now, you can laugh all you want about that. But what irks you is not the new Pope's political bent, but the honor the Pope was given by folks of all religions and creeds. It bothers you that this man was a giant of a Chrisitan and that others that follow belief systems entirely different from yours respect him. If none of this bothered you, you wouldn't have to comment about it. Which really goes to the heart of what atheists are: basically whiney "know it alls" (they think) who are jealous and resentful of others. posted by: littlemrmahatma (reply) post date: 04.06.05 (10:44 am) Ummm, I never say it didn't bother me. I say it "didn't mean much to me on any spiritual level." Instead I was fascinated at the amount and type of coverage simply because, I suspect, neither Judaism or Islam have a similar type of single figure at the lead. But I take offfense at your statement that as an Atheist I am a know-it-all. I'm not and I admit it, which is more that most fervent believers are capable of - yourself included. Do you believe John Paul 2 is in heaven right now consorting with Jesus? If so, how do you know this? posted by: DrForbush (reply) post date: 04.06.05 (1:43 pm) Reply to: littlemrmahatma It is interesting that some people who don't leave a name are ready to call you one... in the name of someone they probably don't even know. I am Catholic myself and I find it disturbing that some people get so fanatical about this event. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 04.15.05 (2:29 pm) yeah, Lets not all lose our heads over the seperation of church and state. It would be....uncivilized. |
